Yep. Pretty Much Back To SSDD

It was overcast but fairly nice outside so the Dog and I spent as much time as we could out there. I fixed my Rider-Mower then mowed both the front yards, then the back yard. Moved some dirt into the tires I’m putting up to grow my maters this year. (Will probably stick to 1 beefsteak & 1 cherry tomato plants this year.)

Earth Bombardment in Universe Sandbox

Then we went for a walk, and, wouldn’t you know it, about 1/4 mile down the road it started coming down. Damn! Was a wet walk back. Damn. Too Old for this crap.

Not a whole lot else going on. Which is why we’re back to SSDD around here. Started up X-Plane 10 and flew around awhile. Been listening to all my Enigma albums. Made some type of stir-fry dinner that’s been in the freezer since Moses was a little boy. (Noodles were rubbery. Really rubbery.)

Waiting for the MCARC 10-meter Tuesday Rag Chew @ 1930. SWMBO should be home any moment.

The One Burning Question I have for this evening is: How in the name of all that’s Holy can Amazon charge MORE for the electronic version of a book than they do for the printed (then sent to you) version? Just doesn’t make any sense. Look up “Odd Thomas” on Amazon and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s Stupid!

Anywho, that’s my life today. Pretty much SSDD.

Well, Pretty Sure I Got Scammed

Been looking for a used camper or small camper trailer to make this trip to Texas (to see my Uncle). Put an ad on Craig’s List for what I was looking for.

Yesterday, a guy called and asked if I was still looking. Yep. He has one in Port Orchard for me to look at. So I went and looked at it. Way back in the boonies at an abandoned/empty house.

Trailer was trash but has real potential; with a LOT of hard work. But, it’s been sitting in one place under the tree’s for about 15 years. Still dry inside though.

Anyway, offered the guy (Jason) $200. Only had $100 with me. He REALLY wanted to follow me to a money machine to get the rest. Really wanted to. But I told him I’d have the balance when I picked the trailer up (today).

Another thing: he didn’t try to finagle the price at all. $200 was perfectly fine. No argument. No hesitation.

He had told me he lives in Silverdale, but when we left he didn’t drive like he was going to Silverdale. Turned off way too early to make any sense for living in Silverdale. Which got me to thinking. Thinking enough that I had a fairly sleepless night.

So, today, looking at the “Bill of Sale” I asked him to write, I couldn’t make out his name at all. So I texted him for his last name for “the paperwork.” He texted back that he’d give it to me when we met today. Hmmm… There’s really only one reason one wouldn’t want to give their last name for. I did find it, Deggs, but it wasn’t easy.

So, I looked up the address he gave me. Turns out it’s in the middle of the Bangor bomb storage area. Hmmm…  Looked up the phone number he’s been using; turns out it’s based in Kelso, WA. (Not really unusual in the cell phone age, I know. But worrying.)

The “business” I traced the phone number to is “Cirtified Window Cleaning, LLC.” Yep, that’s the way it’s spelled in the listing. At least the phone number was correct.

So, went to the Sheriff’s office here in Belfair and passed my story to them. The Officer I talked to said it really does seem like a scam; but who knows. It just might be weird. Decision was up to me. Nothing they can do, of course.

Nope. Not buying this trailer. Just doesn’t feel right.

So, called the number and asked for Jason. “Who’s calling?” (But the way he said it sounded suspicious.) I identified myself and told him I had an emergency in Texas and wouldn’t be able to buy the trailer. What about my deposit?

To which he replied that he’d already spent it and I couldn’t have it back. But I could have the trailer for the $100. (I suspect it’d be gone by the time I got back.)

So, I’m pretty sure I got scammed. Glad it cost me only $100. Wish there was something I could do about it.

But, the Sheriff did say that, from the condition I described the trailer to be in, he doubted that anyone would come looking for it. And if I had a “Bill of Sale” with a signature on it, and the contact information, I probably wouldn’t get into any trouble anyway.

It’s the “probably” that bothers me.

The Joys Of Being A Slum Lord

lrbaalrbb

The fridge in the Rental is not keeping things as cold as it ought to. Oh, Joy. So I spent some time on Craig’s List looking for another one. (Fridge. Not Craig’s List. Nevermind.)

There are a plethora of choices reasonably priced. Contacted one in Port Orchard and am waiting on a reply now. Another $75 I don’t need to spend.

I don’t want to spend too much on a new fridge “just in case” SWMBO’s parents decide to move out here. Then, who know’s what type/size fridge they’d want? It’s already gonna cost a butt-ton to redo their bathroom from tub with shower to walk in shower. Not to mention we may have to pull up the (4 year old) flooring and figure out how to really seal the deck.

I am trying to save as much as I can in case I really do take off for Texas next month. If I spend too much more I won’t be able to go. Catch-22 sort of cause I still need a used camper or small travel trailer to even make the trip.

Fairly nice outside yesterday and today. Still mostly cloudy but do get occasional Sun. Dog and I been outside as much as possible working on the garden or moving things around. Antenna’s. Making piles of stuff to take to the dump (which I gotta learn how to do someday!). Today I assembled the final (I think) planter cause I need to go get some more dirt for the other 2. Figured I might as well do all of them at once.

Wow. Nice electrical storm raging across Indiana towards Columbus, Ohio.

Anyway, I’m tired and sore from lifting cement blocks half the day and we still get to pick SWMBO up at the QFC tonight. Hooked my wagon up to the rider-mower and that works pretty good. Now I can take it out back and collect rocks from the path. Cool!

Probably Not A *Real* Post Tonight

Cause it’s late and I’m getting a bit tired.

Almost a nice day outside. Sunny but not really warm. Kind of too cool if you got hit by the wind, but not too bad. Did eventually get a couple of sprinkles.

So the Dog and I made several walks and spent as much time outside as we could working on antenna’s. Well, I worked on antenna’s. He nosed around and chased butterflies.

I was given the old antenna when the Club replaced it. It’s just kind of hung on my fence for a couple of years. Took a look at it today and the only thing I can find wrong with it is the connector is corroded. So I took it apart and cleaned it up. Need about 100 feet of coax, and, if it works, I’ll probably put it up on the new tower (when I get that up).
