Y’all Ought To Try VMWare!

Found my old discs and spent a couple of hours the other day making virtual drives for DOS 6.2, Windows 3.1/95/98/2000/NT 4.0 & XP. Can’t believe I kept all those old “Operating Systems” but it was fun installing them and playing around with them. Especially DOS. I used to be known as the ’batch king’ cause I could write a .bat file to do most anything. (For you young Windows Freaks, a .bat file was the .cmd file of the day!) Even installed some of the old programs I wrote on the DOS drive. My Medical Tickler Management System, written for dbase III+ and compiled with Quicksilver (I think), still worked as it was meant to. Didn’t blink once at the date being beyond 2000 (Y2K fears). Playing with Windows 3.1 is a crack up! Wish I could find my old Windows 1 discs…
Not too much going on around here. Cold rainy day out. WeatherLiars swear it’s going to be 80 degrees Thursday, 85 degrees Friday and a possibility of 90 degrees Saturday. Sure. And if my grandmother had wings she’d be a Greyhound Bus. But I’m hoping anyway!!!
Last Sunday I wasn’t feeling too good when I woke so I skipped church. Hated to miss it on Mother’s Day cause I know they do special things for all the Mothers in the congregation. Felt okay enough to get out to the property late that afternoon. Brought back that last load of wood I cut last week.
Yesterday made a run to the bank and COSTCO. Bought one of those USB Turntables for SWMBO so she can rip her old albums to mp3 files. And I gotta admit she impressed me greatly yesterday. She assembled the turntable, hooked it up to her laptop, installed the software and ripped her first album without calling on me once! Too cool! Guess she has picked up a few things through osmosis!!
Since I’ve basically been stuck in the house today, except for a quick trip to Staples for blank cd’s and dvd’s, I’ve been backing up all the .avi files I’ve made since the last time I spent all day doing this very same thing. Re-ripping Smallville Season 6 to 720p format .avi’s and backing them up. Trying to get all the stuff on my MediaCenter that I don’t have backed up backed up. I’d HATE to have to re-rip and reconvert all those movies and shows. That would be a lot of work! And as for that MediaCenter: I still can’t get the ATI Radeon 9000 card to use both the monitor and tv at the same time. One or the other right now; but not both. Had it working before I rebuilt the system and it seems like I should be able to get it working agian. Every time I start Catalyst in advanced mode the damned computer reboots though. (Yes, I’ve uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled to no avail.)
Used a program called “NLite” and created an autoinstall Windows XP .iso file. Works great unless the disc you want to install to hasn’t been fdisked. Tried it out (with VMWare) and it worked quite good. Now I gotta figure out how to have it install my drivers and the programs I normally use. That’s 500Gb of stuff! No, I think I’ll leave it as a generic XP system for when I upgrade my computer (which I do about every 2 years). Of course, I could Ghost my system; but I’m not sure it would fit on one dvd for storage. Think I’ll check that out…

Pretty Normal Around Here!…

And that could be a Good thing, or a Bad thing. Depending on how you look at it.
Regular ’date night’ with SWMBO yesterday. We went to see “Ironman” at the 1230 showing in Silverdale. Cool movie. They did Ironman pretty good and Robert Downey Jr. did an excellent job of playing Tony Stark. He even looks pretty much like Tony was drawn in the comics. Cool! Can you say “Sequel?”

Went to an early dinner at Red Robin’s after the movie and had one of the best burgers I’ve had in a LONG time. Not worth $9 bucks but good. With drinks (well, a chocolate malt in my case) our bill came to $30. For Burgers! Damn! I don’t eat much beef since I had my gall bladder taken out; but I ate that whole burger!

Had to drop Poop Dog (Jack) off at the Vet’s at 0830 for his surgery. He’s getting deballed. Poor dog. He’ll be back tomorrow.

Battlestar Galactica was pretty cool last night. I’m betting that the last unknown Cylon is the Lara (the Prez). But I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be Adama (knowing how the writers/producers would like to surprise us!).

Woke up with a headache this morning. Stayed up long enough to make sure SWMBO was up (Genealogy Library Day) then went back to sleep for another couple of hours. Headache was pretty much gone when I got back up. Went and picked Poop Dog up at the Vets. He seems to be doing well. Dropped him off at home then went to the property and loaded that other load of wood I cut the other day and brought it home. SWMBO showed up around 1600 with groceries so helped out there. She’s in fixing dinner (rare!) right now and I’ve got laundry to change around. The Bourne Trilogy is on tv (avi files) and I’ve got some dishes to do…

A Week! A Week Has Gone By?

Damn! Let’s see if I can work my way backwards…

Finishing up stuff around the house. Made a beef stew for dinner that was/maybe the best beef stew I’ve ever made. SWMBO went back for seconds!

Yesterday, Tuesday, SWMBO went in to her office cause she had to give some kind of lecture to a bunch of her Doc’s. Mostly did stuff around the house (dishes, laundry, etc) and worked on that GDMFSOBB of a media server. Completely reinstalled Windows (how many times have I done that in my life!?) and the video drivers, etc. Can get it to show either on the tv or the monitor but not both. Bummer! Went to bed sort of early as I had a headache.

Monday last: Went out to the property and cut up some trees for firewood. Splurged and bought a new chain for my chainsaw and cut 4 trees in the same time it took me to cut one up last time I went out. Took some video I’m going to make into a time-lapse video with music for my regular site.

Sunday: Nice day out at the property. Not as nice as Saturday; but nice. Moved dirt around and dropped another tree.

Saturday: NICE day out. Get Naked nice! Moved some dirt around but had a half-assed headache so I stripped down and got my lounger out and just layed around in the sun. And wouldn’t you know it; two dirt bikers came up my road. So I got my shorts on and read them the riot act about going under peoples chains or over their gates. One of them looks at me and says "We’ll leave if you want us to". "Well, Duh!" Says I. "I didn’t want you up here in the first place. That’s why I put the chain across the road!" So they left. I went back to laying out. Headache didn’t really go away but it wasn’t bothering me as much.

Friday was our usual ’date night’. If I remember right we went to the Family Pancake House for brunch and made our usual Albertson’s stop. Battlestar Galactica was excellent as usual!

I HATE “THE CW” WITH A PASSION!

I honestly believe they have more commercial than show when Smallville is on. That’s the only time I watch that channel so I really have no idea if they’re like that when other shows are on; but it sure bugs the HELL out of me for the hour I do watch them. I’d be willing to bet they ’time compress’ Smallville so they can show more commercials too. I’m at the point of completely skipping watching Smallville on "The CW" and just download and watch it on Friday’s. And I’m almost at the same point with Battlestar Galactica on the Sci-Fi Channel. I’m too damned old to waste so much time watching commercials geared towards 20 year olds or old guys that want to ’keep some of the gray’ and have a bigger dick OR a dick that works.

Not too much going on around here. This hanging around the house SUCKS! I’m really thinking of looking for a job. A real job. Maybe go to Flagger School or something where I can pretty much choose the jobs I want to do. Then if we do get financing for our dome I can stop to work on that without really inconveniencing anyone else.

Reading over my last post I noticed that I completely skipped last Tuesday. Of course, so much time has gone by that I have absolutely no idea what the hell I did last Tuesday. Oh yeah, I unloaded the wood from my truck, split and stacked most of it and messed around the house the rest of the day.

SWMBO went to her office for her usual Wednesday "face" time; but came home by 2000 or so. Strange having her around on a Wednesday night. Then she got up early (for her) this morning and drove over to the other side to help her brother (Bob) look for a car. She said she’d be back by 1400, and was actually back by 1300. Twice in one week she’s on time or early?!?!?! Will wonders never cease?

Got off my lazy old man ass today and went to the bank. Stopped by COSTCO and dropped a cool $48 on ’stuff’. Been working on ’web site’ stuff. Took a break to see if I could break a 747-400 taking off from San Diego International. I can. Smallville was Killer, as usual. Made some music that’s kinda sorta been running through my head for one of my Sunset video’s. Now I gotta convert it to an flv file, make a page for it and upload it. Think I’ll go do that now…

What Movie Is This From? (Yes, I know)
