Just Rambling. Old Guy. What?

Thought I’d try an experiment. If anyone is interested to see my pictures from the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum in Tucumcari, NM here they are. Trying this out to try to share my pictures with Family/Friends or whoever. Again.

My Father-in-law, in Oregon, Ohio, lamented the fact that he got out in near 70 degree Wx one day to mow his lawn. Then the next day woke up to 2″ of snow covering same. Sucks to be him. 😛😀

Somehow took on the job of Treasurer of the North Mason Amateur Radio Emergency Services (NMARES) Club. Is there enough in the bank for a one-way trip to Australia? The previous Treasurer had the job only 20+ years. So I’ll still have the job a year after I’m dead. Or longer depending on who needs money.

We’re talking about starting to have our club meetings in person again next month. This “pandemic” has been rough on almost all Hams, who are fairly gregarious anyway, to NOT get out and meet people. NOT gather for meetings and such. Field Day at home, by ones self, is just a travesty. Hard to invite folks to join or be a Ham if you can’t meet-n-greet.

SWMBO and I got out of the house for a few hours yesterday and drove up to Lake Cushman (and back, of course) cause we’d never been there. We followed that little white line (Hwy 119) to near the end (miles of pot-holed dirt road!), stopping along the way to take pictures and stretch our legs. Dog went nuts! (He had a good time.) Beautiful scenery and some nice falls. I’ll post the pics.

At one of the stops we took stairs down to the water. Going back up I stepped up with my right leg and, as I pushed off, there was a ripping pain in my right knee. Hurt so much the rest of the day I could barely walk. (Feels much better today! Thank Goodness!) Hurt so much I backed out of the rest of Date Day when we got home. (If it hadn’t gotten better after just sitting on my ass (and holding a bag of frozen corn kernels to it) I’d have gone to the Urgent Care today.) I hate this getting old shit.

My friend in PA tried calling yesterday. My phone played his ring tone (We are the Borg, etc) then shut down (cause it was out of power). Told that to my friend and added “So I guess it really IS a smart phone!” Can’t repeat what he told me. Well, I could but it would be redundant.

Looks Like I’ll Die A Healthy Man

You want bullshit headlines? Here’s a bullshit headline: Harvard Researchers Reveal Next Step in 3D Tracking of Freely Behaving Animals

In other words, Harvard researchers reveal next step in 3d tracking of animals in the “wild.” Freely Behaving? Any verbiage needed to get the bucks, I guess. Y’all realize that we Humans used to be “freely behaving,” right? Then we invented Government.

I know, you think you’re free: but try to NOT pay income tax, State tax, or your local “assessments” sometimes. Or going without your mask in a public place. Or even standing on a soapbox (if anyone still does that sort of thing) and saying what you believe out loud. You are a silenced money-pit the Government can withdraw from any time they choose to. And you don’t even get to vote on it.

You are only as free as long as the Government GUNS don’t show up. Remember that when they try to take yours away.

There. Did that get me on any lists?

Had an post procedure ultrasound on my left leg to be sure everything is going as it’s supposed to. It is. So they scheduled me for the 29th to do the Right leg. Cool! Not looking forward to taking the valium though. Makes me woozy afterwards.

Doc says I can stop wearing the compression socks. Which I did. And now, a couple of hours later, my legs are swollen. Not really bad; but you can tell they aren’t “normal.” Ah, if it ain’t one thing, it’s another.

Reading “Mysterious Island” in my quest to read the books that inspired all the old (OLD) sci-fi/monster movies I like. I’m gonna be lucky to make it through this one. Written in 1875 by Jules Verne, it is FULL of the vernacular of the day and like reading one big 5-guy bromance. I am not kidding. Everything is too pat. Too predictable. Too, ah, flowery? Even counting the way “they” all talked/acted back then. It just doesn’t sound real. And Jules did love his proper, scientific, names for things. “Duck” would have been easier, and more recognizable, than mallard genus hoity toity with blue feathers instead of iridescent plumes, etc, etc. Yep, I’ll be lucky to make it through the end. Only in Chapter 12 now.

And, yes, it was nice enough today for the dog and I to take off all our clothes and go for a walk. Nice! Even managed to stay out and get some yard things done. And some things tightened up on my ladder rack. (Which has dented my roof in two places! That’s what the wind does!) NASA didn’t call this year. Bummer!

An old Huey Helicopter (sounded like a B) flew by earlier. Neat! Brought back some memories. (SAR)

A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with three young mothers and their small children. “You all have obsessions,” he observed. To the first mother, he said, “You are obsessed with eating. You’ve even named your daughter Candy.” He turned to the second mom. “Your obsession is money. Again, it manifests itself in your child’s name, Penny.” At this point, the third mother got up, took her little boy by the hand and whispered, “Come on, Dick, let’s go.”

So, that’s about it. SWMBO is home from visiting her aged friend. She’s out watching “This Old House” from 1978. (She subscribed. $8/mo. Every episode of “This Old House” ever made.)

Dad Used To Put Me In Tires

And roll me downhill. Those were Goodyears.

Sunday so it’s probably time to catch up.

My semi-famous cousin, James Earl Hollie, who used to sing with George Jones way back when, died last Thursday evening. The times I met him lately, he’s a pretty interesting fella. So I posted the video I took of him singing at the 2019 Family Reunion in Tenn. Hope everyone enjoys it. Posted the others to FB but may combine them and make one big post for Youtube. (Which keeps coming up with “Copyright violations” because of the songs he sings. Songs he sang his entire life.)

Last Thursday I also had the first (of two) Venaseal’s done. They did the Left leg first. Here 3 days later I really only feel anything when I sit down or manually, well, manipulate the area. Otherwise, even my walk feels easier. Like my Left leg isn’t getting as tired as fast. Looking forward to getting the Right leg done sometime after May 20th. Follow-up ultrasound 0830 tomorrow to be sure my leg ain’t gonna fall off.

Wx sure has been nice these past few days. I think it even hit 80 yesterday. Me and the Dog would have laid out but I have to keep this damned sock on my left leg OR ELSE and I didn’t want to tan unevenly. (😛) Love this Wx but still, I could use some rain for a day to get garbage burned.

SWMBO and I like Corned Beef & Cabbage, but the corned-beef we buy at the store are just too big for the two of us. Unless we want to eat it for a week. So, SWMBO bought a can of corned-beef and I’m adding all the fixings (carrots, cabbage, taters) to it and we’ll try that. I didn’t see any actual chunks of corned-beef though. Hmmm…

Man, that corned-beef is smelling good.

Got out and washed SWMBO’s car for her. Didn’t wear the bikini though. Or the speedo’s. Try and get that picture out of your mind! She said I didn’t have to (wash her car), but, you know, sometimes things are more fun when you don’t Have to.

Bought “Eureka” on blu-ray and am ripping/converting every episode as we speak.

We Get Entirely Too Much

News about “The Squad” or the latest Police killing (except if it’s the Police being killed) or what Mike Obama thinks but Not Enough about

Ellie May Clampett taking a bath.
Just my personal opinion.

Put “Eureka” on pause so I could finally get things done around the house. Got SWMBO’s quilt frame loaded in the truck and ready to go back to the church for tonight’s quilting thingie. Sweeping and swabbing done.

Turned a pork loin ($1.39/lb) into 20 fair thick pork chops and 2 pork roasts (big enough for two people). They’re all sucker-bagged and in the freezer.

Trip to the church and back.

Exciting shit here!

Been watching “Eureka” the past 3 days (or so) and it scares the hell out of me cause I haven’t remembered one thing from watching it before. I remember watching it, but can’t remember a thing. I used to remember everything. All the books I’ve ever read. All the movies I’ve ever seen. If it wasn’t important I’d remember it.

But not now. It’s like CRS (Can’t Remember Shit) hit me in the face and double barreled into my brain. I hate it.

Wait. What was I complaining about?

Why did I walk into the room?

My Venaseal procedure is tomorrow. Joy. Fun. If I react to the valium as I’ve always reacted to valium it’s gonna be a hoot. (My mouth has NO PC filter.)
